Rates
I am available to work on any length of project whether it is a simple analysis requiring an hour or part of a
longer term project. For short projects I charge by the hour depending on the organisation or
individual, whilst for longer projects I can agree a fixed price at the start of the work but can also be flexible to
suit your requirements and those of the work. My rates are negotiable depending on circumstances and whether the work is
commercial or non-commercial.
Services
During my career I have undertaken projects on behalf of, worked alongside
or provided consultancy for many different organisations and individuals including:
European Commission
National and local Government
Non-profit organisations
Commercial businesses
Universities including post graduate students
The services I offer can be broken into three main areas of expertise: Statistics, Mathematical
Modelling and Programming. However, much of the work I have undertaken
has required integrating all three areas.
Statistics:- During my 17 years as a statistician I have used numerous methods and applied them to
to many different areas. I treat each project as original and search for the most appropriate techniques to apply. In many cases
I will apply several different techniques before choosing the most suitable.
As such the range of analytical tools I have applied is continually growing. Below is a list of the general statistical techniques
I have used:
Experimental design and analysis, Multiple and non-linear regression, General linear models,
Binary logistic regression, Cluster analysis, Principal components and Factor analysis, Discriminatory analysis, Monte-Carlo simulation,
Forecasting, Time series including Box-Jenkins SARIMA, Survey design and analysis, Stochastic modelling.
Recently I have been involved with two projects that have utilised the Theory of Planned Behaviour and the
Theory of Reasoned Action. Both of these related techniques are used in
psychology to understand the beliefs, social norms, barriers, incentives, intentions and behaviour of individuals
with respect to a given situation, such as the intention to adopt a new technology or purchase a product.
Mathematical Modelling:- Mathematical modelling can be used for many purposes
from process simulation to optimisation to risk managment to market simulation. Whilst working as
a Research Fellow at The University of Reading much of my research was focused on simulating farm
decision making and production at farm, regional, national and European levels of aggregation. This work also included the simulation of
markets for agricultural produce. Most recently I have developed a sophisticated analytical technique
that combines statistical estimation with mathematical modelling to better replicate the decision making
of economic agents within a market model. My work in this field has resulted in several papers and the
prestigious
Goodeve Medal.
Programming:- In many instances my clients have required bespoke software to implement
the findings of my work. Examples of such work include spreadsheet models with embedded macros to manipluate,
retrieve, collect and output data and 'Windows' style applications to provide forecasts using models developed and
interaction with databases. I have used C++, C#, Java, Visual Basic as well as having gained knowledge and experience of using ASP.NET.
